Woods, Elsie Lillian nee Chastain
Elsie Lillian Woods nee Chastain, 78, of Valmeyer, died June 26, 2005, in St. Louis. She was born 
January 3, 1927, in Venice, the daughter of the late Richard and Marion Chastain nee Johnson. She 
was married to the late Vernal “Woody” Woods. She is survived by her children Edward (Tina) Woods 
of Champaign, Wayne Huddleston, Karen Woods of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Deborah Thomas of 
Camdenton, Mo.; grandchildren Kelsey, Nikita, Dwayne, Nathan and Christian; two great-grandchildren; 
brother Arthur Chastain Sr. of Red Bud; and sister Marion McCarthy of Granite City. She was preceded 
in death by her parents, husband, sisters Helen Wiley and Pearl Chastain, and brothers Edward Chastain, 
Jim Chastain, Jasper Chastain and Junior Chastain. She made dolls for the Salvation Army at Christmas 
and centerpieces for charitable auctions in the Valmeyer area. Visitation and funeral services were at 
Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home, Rev. Mark Prevo officiating.
